The Great Ocean Road to Lorne

Sad to leave our very luxurious appartment in Port Fairy, but onward we go!
Warrnambool first stop, the largest town in the G.O Road region. We drove down to Lady Bay & then had coffee overlooking the river estuary. The sea is wild on this Southern Ocean coast & over the centuries there have been shipwrecks aplenty. There is a museum & sound & light show dedicated to this in Warrnambool. The Southern Right whales breed here from June to Sept & there are viewing areas to watch them.
Bay of Islands
Travelling through farmland & then joining the Great Ocean Road. We stopped 7 times along the first 40 kms of this amazing stretch of coast to witness the power of the ocean as it lashes the limestone cliffs into an incredible array of natural formations.
The Grotto

London Bridge
The Arch
The Razorback
The 12 Apostles

Now the scenery & landscape changed as we climbed higher into forests of eucalyptus & tree ferns, hairpin bends  & then dropping down to Apollo Bay. Climbing again & more twists & turns until we dropped again to the Surf Coast & our next port of call, Lorne.
Another friendly welcome, well appointed appartment  with everything we need. A cup of tea on the balcony attracted some attention from a new aquaintance, something tells me we'll be seeing more of him & his pals!!
