En route to Narooma

Wednesday 11th January

130km to our next destination, Narooma along the scenic coastal road. Back through Pambula & Merimbula, we had particularly liked these two lovely towns with their gorgeous beaches. An interesting feature today was the number of termite nests on the roadside verges & in the forest.

On to Tathra with its historic timber wharf & another lovely beach where we had our lunch (hastily as the heavy cloud was darkening.) Before we could return to the car the heavens opened & we were in the middle of a thunder storm. We drove on through Mimosa N.P. with lightning across the sky & then the hailstones started! The temperature fell from 22 to 8 degrees ! Unbelievable! We had to pull over to the side of the road until the storm abated. The plan had been to walk part of the trail, but that was now impossible.

We continued on to Bermagui, by which time the storm had passed over. Horseshoe Bay with Mount Dromedary in the distance, a picturesque harbour & a sea pool built into the rocks.

Passing Wallaga Lake we came into Narooma. The town has a walking/cycling track around it & goes across the bridge over Wagonga Inlet to the beach on the other side & onward to the little towns of Kianga & Dalmeny. This area has pristine, golden beaches, spectacular blue lakes, inlets & rivers & magnificent mountain scenery. Our bed for the next three nights is in “The Croft” a wooden cabin in the garden of Ian & Micki's B&B, 10km up the hillside from Narooma, with a view over the estuary & wooded hillside......divine!
