Kiama - mountains & valleys

Kiama is situated at the foot of rolling countryside - mountains in the distance & grazing land in the valleys & up the hillside. The Norfolk Pines & palm trees line the cliff edge overlooking  Surf  & Kendalls beaches. Two great campsites overlook the beaches, the cabins look a really lovely place to stay. Park areas or reserves are always amazing here in Oz - play areas for the kids, picnic tables, free electric BBQ & clean toilets. They are always looked after & nobody leaves their litter or abuses the facilities.

Kiama has some lovely old buildings as well as modern additions.

We took a drive out of the town, first to Mount Pleasant Lookout which gave a view over Werri Beach & Gerringong where we had stopped yesterday.

On to Berry, set amongst rolling green hills with the Cambewarra range providing a stunning backdrop, the landscape is unparalleled. Lots of original buildings, now cafes, restaurants & very original shops, including " The Badgers Suitcase" !

From here to Kangaroo Valley, a scenic drive up wooded hillsides, round the tightest hairpin bends with views over the valley. Here lie dairy farms, stud farms & also the Shoalhaven region wineries.

On to Hampden suspension bridge built in 1895. Over the Kangaroo River, where kids were swimming & keeping cool.

More hairpin bends & a steep drive to Mt. Cambewarra Lookout, 678 m above sea level. Breathtaking views over the valley, river & out to the ocean, as far as Jervis Bay & Seven Mile Beach. Apparently you can see 110km of coastline from this vantage point.

This takes the prize for best picnic spot of our trip!

What a spectacular view.
