Tilba, Mystery Bay & Tuross Head

Friday 13th January

Another one of Micki's amazing breakfasts & more chatting with Elizabeth, Rob & Sue.

Heading inland to Central Tilba, a heritage village dating from the gold rush era. Retaining its original houses & buildings, now lovely shops, galleries & cafes & also a cheese factory where we purchased some of the famous Tilba cheese.

( Note the kangaroo skins on the left.)

En route through the forest - 2 more monitor lizards dicing with death, crossing the road. Then, to our delight, an echidna feeding at the side of the road & kindly posing for a photo shoot!

On from here to Mystery Bay, a pretty little cove with lovely views up the coast. Named due to the unsolved disappearance of 5 men during the gold rush, their boat found with 4 deliberately made holes in the hull, marooned  on the rocks.  The anchor & stern lines were missing, but all their personal items were found on the boat. No trace was ever found of the men.

Also here, a strange phenomenon where the waters from the 2 coves meet & part over a sand bank.

Mid afternoon & evening at Tuross Head, up the coast from Narooma. Another coastal treasure – rugged outcrops, miles of beach & lake running inland adjacent to the ocean. This mixture of inlet /lake /ocean is a stunning scenic combination that we are finding all the way up the Eurobodalla region's coastline.

( In the photo the ocean is on the right, lake on the left.)

The Tuross Beach Boatshed provided the best coffee stop to date, watching the fish splashing the otherwise motionless surface of the lake on this beautiful evening.

P.S. We have followed the 3rd Test on the radio today as we've travelled about. India all out for 161 & Warner equalling the fastest century in Test Match cricket.   Hope you're impressed Richard   & Barrie (my cricket mentor ) xx
